Ezekiel 3-6 | The Watchman, The Siege, and the Judgment against Idolatry | ISR 2009
“Son of man, I have made you a watchman for the house of Yisra’ěl; therefore hear a word from My mouth, and warn them from Me.”
Witness the heavy burden of the prophet Yeḥezqěl as he is appointed a watchman, acts out the terrifying siege of Yerushalayim, and declares the fierce judgment against the high places of idolatry in Ezekiel 3-6.
About This Reading
In this episode, we experience the profound, prophetic actions and solemn warnings given to the prophet Ezekiel (Yeḥezqěl) in chapters 3 through 6. This narration utilizes The Scriptures 2009 (ISR) translation. In this reading, we honor the set-apart Names of our Creator, speaking 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 (YAHUAH) as the Spirit gives utterance.
These chapters serve as a sobering confrontation of a rebellious nation, unfolding through dramatic signs and prophetic declarations:
The Watchman’s Charge: Yeḥezqěl eats the scroll of lamentation—finding it sweet as honey—and is appointed as a watchman for Yisra’ěl, bearing heavy accountability for the souls of his people while being bound and made mute.
The Model of the Siege: The prophet is commanded to act out the siege of Yerushalayim on a clay brick, lying on his side for 430 days to bear the iniquity of the house of Yisra’ěl and the house of Yehuḏah, eating measured, defiled bread to signify devastating famine.
The Razor of Judgment: Using a sharp sword as a razor, Yeḥezqěl shaves his head and beard, dividing the hair into thirds—burning, striking, and scattering it—to visually demonstrate the exact, tragic fate awaiting the inhabitants of the city.
Doom to the Idolatrous Mountains: A fierce prophecy is leveled against the mountains, hills, and ravines of Yisra’ěl. The pagan high places and altars will be crushed, leaving the land desolate so that the survivors finally know that He is 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄.
We aim to decrease so that the glorious majesty, the terror of His presence, and the sovereign Name of 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 may be the focus of your meditation.
